The National Association of Incarcerated Scholars (NAIScholars) is an association that brings together formerly incarcerated individuals, currently incarcerated individuals, and educators through supportive scholarship and mentorship. We provide a space for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students and scholars to participate in higher education as students and leaders. Our scholars develop curricula and serve as Teaching Assistants to benefit their peers who are currently on their education journey within or after release from the prison system. Our students have access to academia and a network of educators to learn from and collaborate with.
As a member of the public, perhaps you are wondering what you can do to support our project and our incarcerated and formerly incarcerated members. The NAIScholars represents equity, access, dignity, and partnership in education — but our message does not stop with scholars, educators, or students. Our team consists of both people within and outside the system, and every perspective allows us to strengthen our impact and create an understanding environment. We encourage collaboration: There is a place for your voice and ideas at the National Association of Incarcerated Scholars.
We invite you to send us your inquiries and ideas you may have for our association by emailing jamel.walker@naischolars.org. We are also humbly accepting donations through our fiscal sponsor, The People’s Vanguard of Davis, CA to ensure we can support as many students and scholars as possible. To donate, please click the donation button on the upper right corner of the screen. If our story resonates with you, we encourage you to share our platform and join us on our journey to develop the public’s understanding of the power of education for our members.
